As I am sure you are aware, government guidance and policy related to Covid-19 has now changed.  We are moving into a ‘Living with Covid’ world where the majority of people will have protection from infection, either following direct infection or through vaccination.  Therefore, guidance related to Covid isolation has also changed.

If children are feeling unwell with symptoms of Covid then they should stay at home until they feel better as they are ill.  This is the same as with other infections such as influenza.  People with Covid-19 may have symptoms including:

Fever or chills; Cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Muscle or body aches; Headache; New loss of taste or smell; Sore throat; Congestion or runny nose; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhoea.

Free tests are no longer available and we cannot provide testing kits to families.  However, if a test is available and a child tests positive, then they should stay at home for 3 days, as this is the period during which they are significantly infectious.  Please note that all absence associated with Covid will count to your child’s attendance records and our standard procedures to support excellent attendance will continue to be implemented.

Should we again face a wave of infections, we will communicate directly with Public Health for the South West and follow their direction:  this could include wider, free testing or additional hygiene measures being put into place.
